The winner of the Qualifying Sailplane Grand Prix Poland Żar 2010 is? the weather. We managed to complete two hard tasks only, in which Sebastian Kawa won, leaving his rivals far away and being the only one who crossed the finish line both on two days.
As we needed 3 completed tasks to make the Championship valid, we were trying to use the reserve day- 9th of May. Unfortunately, the weather won again and the Qualifying Sailplane Grad Prix Poland is not valid so no-one got the qualification to World Sailplane Grand Prix Final in July 2011 in Wasserkuppe. The exception is Sebastian Kawa, who, as a current World Champion has a qualification to the next Grand Prix.
We would like to thank sponsors, competitors, competitors’ families, organizers, ground crew and everybody who helped us with the competition.
We wish you safely come back to your homes and better weather during the next gliding competitions. See you in Żar again.
Waiting for so long, we managed to run the task at last :-)
Despite towering Cu and rain in the South, moving in our direction, competitors willingly apperaed on the briefing. Task setter gave them 203,8km task with 4 TPs Babia Góra, Turbacz, Szyndzielnia and Międzybrodzie Bialskie.
We had a possibility to watch competitors struggles, using Online Tracking, the system prepared by pilots from Cracow. Mr Tomasz Kawa was gorgeously commenting pilots' situations. After reaching the first turning point- Babia Góra, competitors were separated from Turbacz- its peak was in the storm clouds. Seeing no chance to reach it, most gliders landed in Nowy Targ's airfield, others- in the neighbourhood of the mountain. Only Sebastian Kawa and Łukasz Błaszczyk managed to survive, and, when clouds and the strom moved out of Turbacz, they reached that point and started to fly towards Babia Góra. Then Łukasz, having low altitude, had to land out. Sebastian stayed alone. He passed Babia Góra massif and was trying to move in Żar's direction. But the next strom was separating him from the airfield. Meanwhile, strong wing and rain came here. Visibility got lower. After a while we managed to see the shape of Jantar crossing our aera... We were so worried about his safely landing in those conditions... And what has he done? He flew over Międzybrodzie Bialskie, then over Bielsko Biała and Szyndzielnia. He reached the Szyndzielnia Turning Point, setting in amazement everybody. Then he circled over Bielsko Biała again and we saw him over the airfield for few minutes. We were sure that he had resing and that he wouldn't cross the finish line in the rain and strong wind. Meanwhile, he reported the finish line at 15.46LT and... made an excellent low pass of the victory to finish his flight... When his landing gear touched the ground, we could hear an aplause in the cafe.
Then a short ceremony took place and Sebastian told us something more about this amazing fight.
Other competitors unfortunately returned with gliders in the trailers.
Thanks Sebastian, today's task has been completed and spectators had a great chance to experience sports spirit...
Contratulations and thank you Sebastian for the flight :-)
We were waiting for the weather all day... Despite ambitious try to run the task, we have been defeated. But it was so sunny morning... Each pilot got up with smile on his face, with hope to fly. After briefing, rain clouds appeared in the South, and, then moved in our direction.
The Director, at 14.10LT canceled the task.

6th Day of Qualifying Sailplane Grand Prix Poland
Each day brings something new to our lives. Today, apart from canceled task (which is nothing strange), brought us really better weather in the afternoon. The view of blue sky was so amazing...
Yesterday and today were days of very bad weather, too? Tasks were canceled and everybody had a nervous breakdown. Those, who defeated it, went shopping with families or to the cinema.
Those, who stayed, were watching the weather precisely, noticing very sudden changes- the ceiling was moving from lower hangar to upper hangar and back. Angry meteorologist, hated by everybody and accusing of the recent days events, was looking for ‘window’ in the clouds, but was defeated. We had decided to burn him on the fireplace, but we gave him one more chance and the event was postponed to tomorrow.
Our staff felt compelled to find the good weather, but also was defeated... Photos from searching on website.
We hope that weather will improve at last…
